Seems so incredible that in this place and under the circumstances in which this Colony is placed any judge should have rejected important evidence on the grounds stated by Mr. Deane that I cannot think of forwarding the officer's report without affording Chief Justice an opportunity of commenting.

The decrease of 323 Cases of Gambling (181 in 1868, 504 in 1864) is clearly attributable to the establishment of Licensed Public Gambling houses, and here I may remark that these returns of Crime dissipate the idea prevalent at the time of their introduction that Crime would be largely increased.
